Penguin Random House

Penguin Random House throws their Reno holiday party at the Grand Sierra Resort, and I have been their DJ for it two Decembers in a row.

The first year was in the Tahoe Room. I loaded in two hours before the doors opened, played dinner music while everyone found their tables, and then the dance floor took over with Conga by Gloria Estefan, Disco Inferno by The Trammps, We Are Family by Sister Sledge, Jump by Van Halen and a run of cumbias like La Culebra by Banda Machos and Payaso De Rodeo by Caballo Dorado. The raffle prizes sat right next to my booth, a 75 inch TV on top of the pile.

Cindy Peer, who booked me, left a review a few weeks later that said it best: DJ Jon is the party, and the dance floor was always packed.

They brought me back the next December. Early in the night it was swing, In The Mood by Glenn Miller and Sing, Sing, Sing by Benny Goodman, then Rock With You by Michael Jackson, Genie In A Bottle by Christina Aguilera, 1, 2 Step by Ciara, Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan and the cumbias again, and I closed the night with Oye Mi Amor by Maná.
