The Story

Helix Electric held their 2024 holiday party at the National Automobile Museum in downtown Reno, and that is a room you do not forget: round tables set between a Tucker, a yellow Chevy wagon under the Gibson sign and the rest of the collection, a Christmas tree beside the stage, and my booth set up next to the podium.

Guests came in at 6:00 PM and I had the museum to myself for a while before that, so I walked the whole floor with my phone. Dinner was catered by Roundabout, and I opened with What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong, then Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve, Clocks by Coldplay and Rock With You by Michael Jackson while everyone found their seats.

Sue, who booked me, asked for disco, so after the speeches I ran Disco's Revenge by Gusto, Family Affair by Mary J. Blige and Toxic by Britney Spears before dinner settled into Sinatra: The Way You Look Tonight, Fly Me To The Moon and Ain't That A Kick In The Head by Dean Martin, with the podium mic running through my system for the awards.

The back half of the night was the holiday songbook, Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee, It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year by Andy Williams, All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey and Last Christmas by Wham!, and I sent them out into the December night with Don't You Want Me by The Human League and Funkytown by Lipps Inc.
