Britt & Chris

They say that there is no substitute for adequate preparation, and this was especially true for Britt and Chris's wedding.

I originally met Britt at the 4th of JuPlaya in the Black Rock Desert. So when she called me to discuss DJing her wedding at the stunning Club at Rancharrah, her contact came up as Nova in my phone. Nova, being her Playa name. I'm not sure what year we met in the desert, but I'm glad we did, because her wedding was a blast!

She explained to me that she was about to book another DJ in Reno for her luxurious wedding, but backed out at the last minute. She did this because the DJ she was going to hire led her on to believe that she would be hiring him directly, yet told her that she would actually be hiring one of his employees at the very last minute. Understandably off putting, she felt inspired to explore more honest options.

So how exactly does adequate preparation factor into this wedding? As I was sound checking before the ceremony, the Honda 2200i generator that the venue provided sputtered to a stop.

Luckily, Mike, one of Britt's family members, was a rancher, and came to inspect the generator minutes before the ceremony was set to begin. "Is it out of gas?" he asked.

I dropped what I was doing, sprinted up the aisle, and out of the ceremony lawn towards my car. Luckily, I just happened to keep a full jerry can of gasoline in my car at all times! One of the 10 principles of Burning Man is radical self reliance, and I surely displayed it on that day!

I sprinted back into the ceremony area as quickly as I could, and filled the venue provided generator with my own personal gas supply. The generator started back up on the first pull, and their ceremony went off without a hitch. Crisis averted!

After the ceremony, I got to enjoy this legendary Reno wedding venue that really looks like a castle. Britt and Chris had an excellent playlist that was full of both 2000s pop hits and Latin bangers. We celebrated their marriage in a huge event tent adjacent to the courtyard area of The Club at Rancharrah. I was surprised to learn after the wedding that Britt and Chris owned nearly all of the party supplies that they used, as I watched them load everything up while I was tearing down my gear.

I was really impressed by their special coordinated first dance, which really set the crowd off! The lighting was also just right for their post ceremony shots, and they look completely angelic in their wedding photos.

I remember that Britt was adamant that I play Glamorous by Fergie towards the end of the evening, and I was happy to oblige!

Britt and Chris were also incredibly generous, not only paying a very premium rate for a peak Saturday in September, but they also tipped me $250 cash, before profusely thanking me for my quick thinking and action that saved their wedding ceremony.
